Basic Introductions to Workday Student for Faculty
These instructions help orient you to the Workday Student regarding logging in and navigating through the system for the following basic features pertaining to faculty work: logging in and basic navigation, searching courses in general, retrieving class rosters, submitting/changing grades before the deadline, and sending message to enrolled students.
How to Login to Workday Student
- Navigate to the above website and then log in with your BYUH credentials
- Once you’re logged in, you’ll be sent to the Workday homepage
Navigating the Homepage: The Global Navigation Bar
The Global Navigation Bar includes links to the following:
- Home: Takes you back to the Workday homepage
- Global Search (Search Bar): type in a keyword or phrase related to what you’d like to search
- Workday Assistant: an AI-powered chatbot that allows you to complete tasks and find information within the Workday platform
- Notifications: alerts of important events within the system (approvals/updates/status changes/etc.)
- My Tasks: where you can view, manage, and complete all action items or tasks within Workday
- Profile: the “personal” page in Workday where you can view and manage information related to your account
Find Course Offerings in General
- Search "find course section” in the search bar:
- In the “Start Date Within” type the semester (e.g. Spring 2024/ Spr 2024)
- In the “Academic Level” select “Undergraduate”
- Select “OK”
- Use the filters on the left-hand side of the screen to filter by subject, etc.
- Select the specific course to see the credits enrollment capacity, instructional format, instructor, etc.
- Follow instructions for Find Course Offerings
- Select Course
- Review details
View Faculty’s Own Course Roster
- Open the “Instructor–>Teaching” tab on your home screen on the left-side panel
- Under the “Instructor Activities” title select “View Course Section Roster” to view your current, past, or future teaching schedule
- In the search bar, select “My Assigned Course Sections”
- Select the academic year, semester, then the course you want to view, and click “OK.”
- Information on Class Roster will include:
- Photo, if available
- Student ID
- Name
- Preferred Name
- BYUH email
- Latest Class Standing
- Declared Majors, Minors, and Certificates
- Registration Status
- Registered, Withdrawn, completed (grades given) etc. ο Credits for the course
Assign Final Grades
- Open the “Teaching” tab on your home screen or through the apps section on your dropdown menu.
- Under the ‘Instructor Activities’ title select “Assign Final Grades”
- In the pop-up window select “My Assigned Course Sections” in the “Student Course Section” drop-down list
- Select “OK’ ο Select the semester and year you want to grade for ο Choose the course you want to grade
- On the table find the student you are wanting to grade
- Select the drop-down list in the ‘Final Grade’ column and assign the student a grade.
- Once you have finished assigning the grades you need to select ‘Continue’ at the bottom of the screen.
- Check the ‘Confirm’ box
- Select the ‘Submit’ button
- Select ‘Done’
- Once you have finished assigning the grades you need but want to save and come back later select “Save for Later” (This will not assign any grades but will save your work until you are ready to continue with the process)
Change Final Grades
- Open the “Instructor/Teaching” (tab on your home screen or through the apps section on the left-side panel
- Under the “Instructor Activities” title, select “Assign Final Grades”
- In the pop-up window select “My Assigned Course Sections” in the “Student Course Section” drop-down list
- Select “OK’ ο Select the semester and year you want to grade for
- Choose the course you want to change the grade for
- On the table find the student you are wanting to change the grade for
- Check the box in the “Change Grade” column
- Once this box is checked a “Revised Grade” column will appear ο Select the new grade from the drop-down list
- In the “Grade Change Reason” column select the reason for the grade change from the dropdown list.
- Add a comment providing the details for the reason in the “Comment” column ο Select “Continue”
- Check the “Confirm” box
- Select the “Submit” button
- Select “Done”
Send Message to Enrolled Students
- Go to the Teaching Dashboard
- From the Workday home page, click “Instructor/Teaching”
- Open “My Courses” or “View Course Sections”
- Select the course section you want to communicate with
- Open the View Course Section Roster
- Choose course section.
- Click on “Send Message”
- Enter:
- From Display Name
- Reply to
- Subject
- Body
- Enter:
- Select “OK”
