Peter Chan

Dr. Peter Chan has been working as an Assistant Professor of
Instructional Technology at Brigham Young University Hawaii for four
years since 2002. He assists the university in developing its
instructional technology curriculum and was recognized as the "Teacher
of the Year" in 2005 for his leadership in a number of international
academic collaborations. His research and development work in using
video ethnography for training in higher-level thinking has been
applied in China, Mongolia, and the United States. Dr. Chan was awarded
an honorary professorship at the Health Sciences University of Mongolia
earlier this year for his contribution in improving medical
instructions in the country. He has also received awards for his
dissertation study from the American Educational Research Association
and the Association for Educational Communications and Technology. |

John L. Bailey came to BYUH in 1997 after teaching for 20 years at the high school level in New Zealand where his subject areas were mathematics and computing. John completed his Ph.D. in 1985 in the Instructional Science department at the School of Education at Brigham Young University - Provo. John teaches education courses, mentors students as the Dean of the School of Education and directs the International Teacher Education Program (ITEP).
John and Lorretta met here at the Church College of Hawaii (now BYUH) in 1974. They are the parents of 6 children including 5 returned missionaries, 2 BYUH graduates, 3 daughters-in-law and 9 grandchildren.

M. David Merrill is a professor of instructional technology. Since receiving his Ph.D. in 1964 his primary interest has been and still is investigating what makes for effective, efficient and appealing
instruction. In the pursuit of this goal he has made several major contributions to the field of instructional technology. In the 1970s he was a primary designer of the authoring system for TICCIT an early CBT system. In the 1980s he developed Component Display Theory and
Elaboration Theory that are still widely used as guides for effective instructional development. In the 1990s his work included knowledge objects and instructional transaction theory primarily aimed at facilitating the automation of instructional design. His recent work is an attempt to identify those first principles of instruction that are
common to most theories and models of instruction. He was recently
awarded the 2001 Distinguished Service Award by AECT "for advancing the
field of Instructional Technology through scholarship, teaching, and
leadership."

Greg Francom graduated with a master's degree in Instructional Technology at Utah State University in December of 2007. The Instructional Technology program at USU has opened his mind to great theories and practices in the field that has led him to want to continue his studies and obtain a Ph.D. in this field. He plans to work as a professor of Instructional Technology at a research university where he will continue to teach, research and learn about instructional theories and practices. He hopes to solve some of the problems that plague current instruction and education, and contribute to the continued success of the discipline of Instructional Technology. |

Native to São Paulo, Brazil, Skaf graduated in 2005 with a M.F.A. in Film & Television Production from Chapman University. In 2001 he graduated Magna Cum Laude from Brigham Young University-Hawaii with a B.A. in International Cultural Studies, communications emphasis, and a minor in Information Systems. Skaf currently teaches video production courses at BYU Hawaii and Hawaii Pacific University. He also teaches intercultural communication courses at Chaminade University. In addition, he does consulting work for Kahuku High School, where he’s developing a video production curriculum. He also runs his video production company called Corporate Hawaii Productions where he produces videos for marketing and training purposes.

Born and raised in the big metropolitan city of São Paulo, Brazil. Currently
working on her MFA with the Academy of Art University, her strong
motivation to become an artist helped her to get into a competitive Art
School in Brazil, where she received a Technical Degree in Art/Design
at the young age of 18. After traveling to several destinations in
South and North America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Pacific, she
moved to Hawaii in 1999 and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Brigham
Young University-Hawaii in 2002, with a Bachelor in Fine Arts. Monique
works as the University Photographer at BYU-Hawaii and teaches visual
design classes as a special instructor. She has also worked as a
freelance photographer and designer for the past 7 years. As a
multidisciplinary artist, she is interested in experimenting with the
fusion of different art forms.
