Fine Arts Talent, Department, & Donor-Based Scholarships

The Department of Fine Arts offers the following types of awards with amounts ranging from $250 to full tuition

In order to apply for these scholarships, students must also complete a scholarship application with Financial Aid.

  • Theater, Music, and Art Talent Awards available to BYU-H students of any major who meet necessary criteria.
  • Art Department Scholarships: available to Art Majors who meet the necessary criteria
  • Music Department Scholarships: available to Music Majors who meet the necessary criteria
  • Donor-Based Scholarships: available to Music Majors who meet the criteria specified by the donor (some specify an exact major within the Music curriculum).

Talent Awards

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Enroll at BYU-H for 14 credit hours per semester (6 per term)
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.0 and above
  • Applications must be submitted by deadlines listed below
  • Art Awards are based on Portfolio submissions
  • Music Awards are based on live or electronically submitted auditions.

Art Department Scholarships

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Enroll at BYU-H for 14 credit hours per semester (6 per term)
  • Major in Art (BFA - two or three dimensional emphasis); (Art Education departmental scholarships are administered through the School of Education)
  • Cumulative GPA must be 3.0
  • Submission of portfolio of current artwork
  • Applications must be submitted by the following deadlines:

Art Academic Scholarship (DOC)

Music Department Scholarships

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Enroll at BYU-H for 14 credit hours per semester (6 per term)
  • Major in Vocal Studies, Piano Pedagogy or Instrumental (Music Education departmental scholarships are administered through the School of Education)
  • Cumulative GPA must be 3.0
  • Students currently enrolled must formally audition for this award at the end of semester juries. Students not currently enrolled may also apply but must meet the deadlines below and submit a written application with recordings and/or electronically submitted auditions.
  • Scholarships are renewable by semester
  • Applications must be submitted by the following deadlines:

Music Donor-Based Scholarships

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Students must be enrolled at BYU-H for 14 credit hours per semester (6 per term)
  • Minimum Cumulative GPA must be 2.5
  • Additional Requirements as specified


Kyle Mahi Mori Music Scholarship (1 Awardee Each Year) Melba W. Staples Music Scholarship
  • Major in Vocal Studies, Piano Pedagogy or Music Education
  • Sophomore, Junior or Senior
  • Minimum Music Class GPA must be 2.7
  • Musically versatile
  • Student must be committed to graduating from BYU Hawaii
  • Major in Music Education with junior or senior class status
  • Demonstrate commitment to earning a secondary teaching certificate
Betty Wilson Music Scholarship
  • Major in Music or Vocal Performance
  • Member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
  • Minimum Music Class GPA must be 3.0
  • Demonstration of Financial need (attach Financial Need Worksheet)
